  A divorce certificate is required for a second marriage.   Mainland residents who get married should jointly go to the marriage registration authority in the place where one party's permanent household registration is located to handle the marriage registration. If a Chinese citizen marries a foreigner in the mainland of China, or a mainland resident marries a Hong Kong resident, a Macao resident, a Taiwan resident, or an overseas Chinese in the mainland of China, both men and women shall jointly go to the marriage registration office in the place where the mainland resident's permanent residence is located to register their marriage.

  According to Article 1049 of the Civil Code of the People's Republic of China, both the man and the woman who request marriage shall personally apply for marriage registration at the marriage registration authority.
