Chinese citizens and foreigners, compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, overseas Chinese and people going abroad who apply for marriage must hold the following certificates respectively:
(1) Chinese citizens
1. My registered residence registration certificate (household register, ID card);
2. A certificate of marital status issued by my workplace, urban street office, or rural township (town) government.
(2) Foreigners, foreign Chinese
1. My passport or other identification or nationality documents;
2. Alien Residence Certificate issued by our public security organ, or identity certificate issued by the foreign affairs department, or entry and residence certificate for temporary visit to China;
3. A marriage status certificate issued by a notary public in the country, authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (or an authorized agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and the Chinese embassy or consulate in that country; Or a marriage status certificate issued by the embassy or consulate of the country in China;
4. Foreign students studying in vocational schools, colleges, and undergraduate programs are generally not allowed to get married during their school years. If other students (such as continuing education students, graduate students, etc.) request to marry Chinese citizens, in addition to holding the above-mentioned certificates, they must also hold a certificate of academic achievement from their respective universities;
5. Divorce certificate or spouse's death certificate for remarried individuals (divorce certificate needs to be authenticated by the Chinese embassy or consulate in that country, or directly authenticated by the embassy or consulate in that country).
(3) Hong Kong compatriots
1. Hong Kong resident identity card, home visit permit or seafarer's certificate;
2. The marriage status certificate issued by the Hong Kong Marriage Registry and the declaration made by the applicant that the marriage has never been registered anywhere else, as verified by a Hong Kong lawyer commissioned by my judicial authorities;
3. Divorce certificate or spouse's death certificate for remarriage.
(4) Compatriots in Macau
1. Macau resident identity card, home visit permit or seafarer's certificate;
2. Marriage qualification certificate issued by the Macao Marriage and Death Registration Bureau or no marriage registration certificate;
3. Divorce certificate or spouse's death certificate for remarried individuals.
(5) Compatriots in Taiwan
1. Taiwan Compatriots Travel Permit or the "People's Republic of China Travel Permit" issued by our embassy or consulate abroad with the words "Taiwan Compatriots" added;
2. Copy of the registered residence issued by Taiwan notary office without spouse certificate or notarized;
3. Taiwanese compatriots who have divorced or lost their spouse also need to provide a notarized divorce certificate or spouse's death certificate. If they are unable to provide the above proof, they can provide a notarized declaration or announcement of the parties' divorce published in Taiwanese or Hong Kong/Macau newspapers. If it is not notarized, it will not have legal effect.
(6) Overseas Chinese
1. The passport issued by my embassy or consulate in the country;
2. A certificate of no spouse issued by a notary public in the country of residence certified by the Chinese embassy or consulate in that country, or a certificate of no spouse issued by the Chinese embassy or consulate in that country;
3. The divorce certificate or spouse's death certificate of the remarried person shall be authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country and our embassy or consulate abroad.
(7) Personnel going abroad. People going abroad refer to Chinese citizens who have left the country according to law and have not settled down in foreign countries for more than 6 months. The personnel going abroad need to:
1. My passport;
2. Certificate of Marital Status issued by the employer;
3. A Certificate of Marital Status issued by my embassy or consulate abroad, or by a notary public in my country of residence certified by my embassy or consulate abroad, during my stay abroad;
4. If both parties applying for marriage registration have a previous marriage relationship but have already divorced, they must hold a divorce certificate; Widows must hold a spouse's death certificate.
II
1. Both men and women must voluntarily marry.
2. Marriage age: Male must be at least 22 years old and female must be at least 20 years old.
3. Both parties have no spouse (unmarried, divorced, widowed).
4. There is no direct blood relationship or collateral blood relationship within three generations between the two parties.

1. Apply
Both married men and women must go to the marriage registration office in the place where one party's household registration is located to apply for marriage registration with their own resident identity cards, registered residence certificates, photos, and certificates of marital status (unmarried, divorced, widowed) issued by their unit or village committee (neighborhood committee). When applying for remarriage, divorced individuals should also present their divorce documents. In places where premarital health check ups are implemented, the parties applying for marriage must also go to designated medical and health institutions for premarital health check ups and submit proof of premarital health check ups to the marriage registration authority.
2. Review
The marriage registration authority must carefully examine the identity certificate, registered residence registration certificate and unit certificate of the party concerned, inquire about the party concerned, and make necessary investigations or designate items for medical appraisal, so as to find out whether the party concerned meets the conditions for marriage.
3. Registration
After a comprehensive review and understanding by the marriage registration authority, those who meet the conditions for marriage should be allowed to register and issued a marriage certificate; Those who do not meet the requirements will not be registered and the reasons will be explained to the parties involved. If the parties applying for marriage are unable to obtain the required proof due to interference from their employer or others, the marriage registration authority should also approve the registration and issue a marriage certificate if it is confirmed that they meet the marriage conditions.
