Getting a new marriage certificate requires taking a new photo. If the marriage certificate is lost or damaged, the resident ID card, household registration book, and three marriage registration photos are required when applying for a new marriage certificate, just like when applying for the marriage certificate for the first time. Therefore, couples who apply for a new marriage certificate need to take a new marriage registration photo at the Civil Affairs Bureau or an external photo studio, with two posted on the marriage certificate and one kept as a record at the Civil Affairs Bureau.

If you lose your marriage certificate, you can go to the original marriage registration office to apply for a replacement or provide proof of your marriage relationship, and then file for divorce. If one party requests divorce, relevant departments can mediate or directly file a divorce lawsuit with the people's court. The people's court shall conduct mediation in the trial of divorce cases. If the relationship has indeed broken down and mediation is ineffective, divorce shall be granted.

If mediation is ineffective under any of the following circumstances, divorce shall be granted:

（4） Separated for two years due to emotional discord;
（5） Other situations that lead to the breakdown of marital relationships.
If one party is declared missing and the other party files a divorce lawsuit, the divorce shall be granted.
